Overall Description

Position within Mechanical Design Team to design and support continually evolving ticket machine products in a demanding environment.

Main Duties

• To research, design, prototype, evaluate and maintain mechanical products, applying knowledge of engineering principles
• Implement and meet design phases required to ensure successful introduction of products into production and end customer
• Continuously review manufacturing and production processes, introducing new materials and applying new technology, always with a view to deliver cost effective products.
• Create 2D and 3D drawing packages
• Managing suppliers for development prototyping, tooling and production intent designs
• Initiate and carry out test procedures for new designs
• To ensure through design and test that all necessary national and international regulatory standards are met
• Complying with company’s procedures to meet expectations of product quality and reliability
• Working closely with other departments and teams, particularly electronics, software, production and purchasing, to ensure products achieve the highest standards

Person Spec • Practical design and implementation experience in a production environment
• Demonstrable mechanical design experience with engineering background in sheet metalwork and small mechanisms
• Understanding of drawing standards BS308 and BS8888
• Experience of SolidWorks or other similar design applications
• Good understanding of materials and the implications of using them in production and outdoor environments
• Knowledge of electromechanical products would be an advantage
• Experience of approval processes including safety, industry standards and environmental regulations
• Hands on approach to design
• Motivated and flexible individual who is able to work to deadlines when under pressure
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
• Good understanding of commercial issues
